Connecticut Master Chorale

Young American lyric soprano Emily Martin, whose face and voice smolder with a passionate intensity that are electrifying, recently graduated The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia where she performed such roles as Susanna, Musetta, Zerlina, Pamina and Lauretta. Highlights of the current (2001-2002) Season include returns to Skylight Opera Theatre for Don Giovanni and the Hartford Symphony for Messiah as well as her début with the Charlotte (FL) Symphony. Last season she sang the title role of Titus Rosina with Skylight Opera Theatre, Micaela in Opera Grand Rapids Carmen, Messiah with the Hartford Chorale and Hartford Symphony, Bachs Mass in B Minor with the Syracuse Symphony and an evening of Puccini arias with the Whatcom Symphony in Washington and was soloist at the Anchorage Festival of Music singing Brahms Requiem, Barbers Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Coplands As It Fell Upon A Day. As one of five finalists in the Llangollen International Singer Eisteddfod, she appeared with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic conducted by Yves Abel in a concert telecast live on Welsh National Television.

Recently following another summer at Chautauqua Opera (singing Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and two Gala concerts while covering Norina in Don Pasquale and Adele in Die Fledermaus), Miss Martin was featured in Gianni Schicchi, the inaugural production at the Sylvan Opera Festival in the Philadelphia area. Active as a concert artist, she has performed Bach's Mass in B Minor, Vivaldi's Gloria, Schubert's Mass in G and Handel's Messiah and presented recitals on the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum Concert Series in Boston, at The Chautauqua Institution and at The Tanglewood Music Center. With such companies as Chautauqua Opera and the Ohio Light Opera she has sung the title role in the World Première of Robert Ward's Lady Kate, Valencienne, Rose Maybud (Ruddigore), Lisa (Countess Maritza), and Rose (Street Scene), among others. She has been a SPECtrum Residence Artist with Virginia Opera performing in a variety of productions and special concerts.

Winner of the Viva Voce Award from Opera Index Awards, she also won the Mario Lanza Competition, received the Outstanding Young Artist Award from Chautauqua Opera in 1997 and has been recognized by the Metropolitan Opera with a Development Award at the Metropolitan Opera Regionals.

A native of Connecticut, Miss Martin received her degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University before continuing her education at AVA. Her principle teachers have been Joanna Levy, Phyllis Curtin and Joan Heller.
