Member soloists: Patricia Alworth, David Jurman, Cindy PeñaThis four movement work sets Mary’s prayer "Magnificat" (My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord) to Latin American musical gestures. The piece celebrates the unique Latin American spirituality that has grown out of devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. It opens with three themes that are woven together over a Calypso rhythm. The second movement is haunting and modal. The third movement utilizes some Latin American harmonic writing in the midst of standard choral singing. The fourth movement is completely infectious with pulsating and electrifying Samba rhythms. It builds and builds, and explodes into a dynamic and spectacular finale. You will not be able to sit still on this one!!!
